We are all familiar with green flashing beacons being used by doctors, but why are they used on diggers, dumpers and other plant equipment?

A simple answer is, they are used to indicate the driver or operator is wearing their seat belt.  From our research we found early references to this process by the Mineral Products Association (MPA), as part of their Safe Quarry programme in 2012.

Since then it has been adopted in a wider array of construction products by private companies as well as on highways as part of Highways England’s ‘Raising the Bar’ safety programme.

Side repeater lights: The rules for trucks and trailers

It is commonly misunderstood that the fitment of directional indicators (side repeater lighting) is restricted to Category 6 side repeater lights.  However this isn’t true, and you can utilise Category 5 schedule lighting approved under ECE Regulation 6.

Both types of lighting (5 & 6) have a high intensity light output and have a directional beam specifically for this purpose, as opposed to side marker lights.
