Solved: LED Indicators Flashing Too Quickly

This article is about LED indicators that have been fitted to a vehicle and flash too quickly. This is also sometimes referred to as ‘hyperflashing’.

Problem: I have retro-fitted some LED lights to the rear (or bulbs) and the indicators are flashing too quickly.



If you have just fitted some LED lighting including directional indicators, or have fitted LED bulbs, and they are now flashing too fast – it is all down to power draw.

LEDs draw far less power than traditional halogen/tungsten bulbs. Although the reduced draw of LEDs has its advantages, replacement of indicator bulbs with LEDs will cause what is called hyperflashing. It’s not a difficult thing to solve though, and we have two options for you.


Option 1: Fit an LED flasher relay

From stock, we hold a number of LED flasher relay units to act as direct replacements for the traditional relay fitted when your vehicle was built. Choose from either an electronic 2-pin LED flasher relay (stock code 256.013) or 3-pin flasher (stock code 256.014) option.

This is the simplest way to solve the problem, and is recommended if it is a suitable option for you.


Option 2: Fit an LED loading module (resistor)

Unlike the LED flasher relay option, the loading module requires a little more time to fit and will involve some wiring alterations. The resistor then slows down the flash rate solving the problem.
